CHANDIGARH: The accused who had given shelter to ATM robbers was arrested by Chandigarh police and he was produced before a local court that sent him in 10-day police remand. The accused has been identified as Ravinder Kumar alias Sanju, one of the eight persons who had attacked cops when they went to arrest ATM robber Dharminder Singh last week. With arrest of the accused, police have also recovered the ATM which was stolen from Dappar.
The machine at the time contained Rs 18.43 lakh.
Sources said that during interrogation of the accused Ravinder, he led cops to the ATM of Punjab National Bank which was stolen from Dappar. The machine was found in a 150feet-deep ditch at Morni, Panchkula. During interrogation of the accused, it was also found that on October 15, the four accused had used gas cutters to break into the ATM kiosk. They had then used a towing vehicle to escape with the machine towards Morni.
At Morni, cops said the accused used a hammer to break the machine and remove the cash and then disposed of the machine by pushing it down the ditch. It was found that accused Ravinder Kumar was also one of the accused in ATM robbery case as he has Rs 4 lakh with him which is yet to be recovered. Kumar was also involved in murder case in Mauli Jagran and had been sentenced to 20 years in jail by the court. Kumar came out on parole from the court around 20 days ago and has been booked in an attempt to murder case.
